A little rusty
So until last year I hadn't played for around 20 years. My Dad was a Jazz drummer & my nephew at 13 is wicked on a kit & I thought what a great idea that we could have 3 generations playing at this event & they were up for it. Problem is I've been blowing the dust off this last week & I'm in real danger of being the poor relation out of the 3! - My timing sucks! I'm on a strict regime of at least an hour a day to make sure I don't screw up spectacularly. I might be the only guy not trying to show off on the day!
Anyone else a little rusty?

I'm not rusty as i play every week.
What i would say though is that i'm not a technical/show off drummer. I took a few lessons when i started and then once i had the basics i made it up from there. Kept thinking about lessons but just don't have the time!
So you won't be seeing me rattling round the kit or doing anything amazing!!

Re: A little rusty
Not rusty - but a complete beginner, well in my eyes. I started with a kit a friend lent me last year for a bit of fun and got the bug. Started lessons when I bought my own kit at the end of March. I've had about 8 lessons now and love it, fabulous teacher too.
Lessons are on a Roland though and I've got accoustic, completely different set up so I have real problems getting around the electric kit after practicing at home. Working on Grade III already. I can read mujsic or copy someone but improvising is a completely new skill to me... but happy to give anything a go

Great. Always good to have new drummers around. I think playing with other people is so essential. Once you've got other musicians around you really begin to improvise & try things then. Then once you've played to an audience - THERE'S NO TURNING BACK!

Up until 4 years ago it was 10 years without picking up a pair of sticks.
Dont worry it will all come back.
Make things up dont do everything by the book. I do it all the time and people say i am an excellent drummer, but in my mind no where near.
Do what ever works for you, stick some headphones on and play to your fav song trust me it all comes flooding back.....
